Hello and welcome to my website… I’m Bekah – artisan florist, musician and mum of two. For those of you interested in the story behind Rose & Rhubarb, here it is…
Rose & Rhubarb
Flowers have always been a fascination for me – even as a toddler, I was captivated by their shape, scent and colour. I was fortunate to grow up in a family of keen gardeners in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, surrounded by nature at its best. I have always loved the changing seasons, and the English countryside, and wherever possible, I try to use local, seasonally-grown flowers. Recently, I have taken on a small plot in my village and am establishing a cutting patch, with a view to producing the majority of the flowers I use.
Growing up, I got involved in flower arranging at quite a young age – entering my first competition at the age of 8! After several years of competing in flower festivals and shows, I decided to focus on my other love – music. A music degree, a decade of teaching and a baby followed. Apart from the odd floral request from a family member, floristry took a back seat – until my brother asked a 6-month pregnant me to do the flowers for his wedding…! Although quite stressful at the time (I had just returned to work before the wedding), I loved every minute of it.
Fast forward two years, and I now have a growing floristry events business. Mainly focussed on weddings and workshops (I still love teaching!), I slot the flowers in and around my part-time teaching job, and being a mum to two small children. Thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to be creative, I am slowly building up a reputation locally for natural, wild floristry, full of texture and tone – ideally suited to those seeking a more naturalistic, seasonal look.
